Metformin XR
Indications/Uses
MetforminΒ is used with a properΒ diet and exerciseΒ program and possibly with otherΒ medicationsΒ to control highΒ blood sugar. It is used in patients withΒ type 2 diabetes. Controlling highΒ blood sugarΒ helps preventΒ kidneyΒ damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control ofΒ diabetesΒ may also lessen your risk of aΒ heart attackΒ orΒ stroke. Metformin works by helping to restore your body’s proper response to theΒ insulinΒ you naturally produce. It also decreases the amount of sugar that yourΒ liverΒ makes and that yourΒ stomach/intestinesΒ absorb.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Reduction in the risk or delay of the onset of type 2 diabetes:
1,000 mg:Β The maximum recommended dose of Glucophage XR 1000 mg is 2 tablets (2000 mg) once daily with the evening meal.
Monotherapy or combination with other oral antidiabetic agents:Β
1,000 mg:Β Glucophage XR 1000 mg should be taken once daily with the evening meal at a maximum recommended dose of 2 tablets per day.
