Metformin
Indications/Uses
MetforminΒ is used with a properΒ diet and exerciseΒ program and possibly with otherΒ medicationsΒ to control highΒ blood sugar. It is used in patients withΒ type 2 diabetes. Controlling highΒ blood sugarΒ helps preventΒ kidneyΒ damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control ofΒ diabetesΒ may also lessen your risk of aΒ heart attackΒ orΒ stroke. Metformin works by helping to restore your body’s proper response to theΒ insulinΒ you naturally produce. It also decreases the amount of sugar that yourΒ liverΒ makes and that yourΒ stomach/intestinesΒ absorb.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Take thisΒ medicationΒ byΒ mouthΒ as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 3 times a day with meals. Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
