Ciprofloxacin
Indications/Uses
Infections of the resp tract, middle ear (otitis media), paranasal sinuses (sinusitis) especially caused by gm -ve organisms including Pseudomonas or Staphylococcus, eyes, kidneys, urinary tract, genital organs including adnexitis, gonorrhoea & prostatitis; abdominal cavity (eg, bacterial infections of GIT, biliary tract, peritonitis); skin & soft tissue, bones & joints, septicaemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Resp tract infections 250-500 mg bd. Acute uncomplicated UTI 250 mg once-bd. Cystitis in pre-menopausal women 250 mg as single dose. Complicated UTI 250-500 mg bd. Acute gonorrhoea 250 mg as single dose. Other infections 500 mg bd. Severe, life-threatening infections 750 mg bd. Surgical prophylaxis 750 mg as single dose given 60-90 min pre-op.
